- Make sure their cuticle is not ragged and the nail is perfectly smooth. Make sure that there is nothing on and around the nail that makes your client feel like biting it off.
- Teach your client how to care about her nails at home. Tell her about the germs and infections, permenent nail deformities and educate her how to file properly. Make sure that nail care and hand moisturising becomes a daily routine.
- Set your clients small goals week by week and make sure she makes regular appointments.
The most important thing to pay attention to is the cuticles. Most nail biters do not pay attention to their hands and leave their cuticles to grow long and the skin is always dry. Teach them how to moisturize it and push it back gently. Tell them that this should be the frist step and a few weeks later when the nails become stronger she can have nail polish or other treatment.
This should be a 3-4 week natural nail program. For the first appointment just focus on a complete manicure and moisturising after this shaping and prepping and maybe some strenghtening top coat can be applied.
The next 1-2 weeks you can do some correction or little manicure (re-shaping) but never forget the education.
You can leave some lengh after a few weeks but never too long just to avoid temptation. And nail biters not used to having anything on their fingers.By the end of the program you can consider applying some gel acrilic or other strenghtening product on the nail to make it even nicer and more difficult to bite.
